Accountant – Full Time

The Organisation

The Cairns Aquarium is a world class tourist attraction right in the Cairns city centre which enables people to see and interact with the incredible plants, fish, animals and habitats found only in Australia’s Wet Tropics, a region which borders two Heritage listed environments, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. With 16,000 fish and aquatic animals onsite within 71 live exhibits, the Cairns Aquarium strives to protect and conserve biodiversity by educating people about the unique creatures in Tropical North Queensland’s protected ecosystems. 

   
The Position

You will be responsible for the day to day financial management of the Cairns Aquarium and will report to the CEO. The role will focus on maintaining transactional accounting entries, integrity of the general ledger, financial analysis, reporting and supporting the timely and accurate analysis, and interpretation of financial results. In addition, you will keep us compliant with all things finance related including payroll.

  
The Successful Candidate

You will have previous experience working in a similar role in a mid to large size company, having excellent time and task management abilities, high attention to detail, knowledge of accounting standards, good communication skills with a recognised accounting qualification. You will be energetic, positive, focused, and have the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of management and staff to ensure financial direction, stability and growth are achieved.

• Tertiary qualifications, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Economics with demonstrated equivalent experience, knowledge and skills.
• Minimum of three to five years in a related role.
• Proven experience as an Accountant in a similar size organisation.
• Experience and level of understanding of financial trends both within the company and general market patterns.
• Experience and level of understanding of financial and accounting principles and statistical reporting.
• Proven experience and level of knowledge of all finance, taxation and payroll statutory legislation and regulations.
• Proven proficiency with using finance software packages including MS Office suite, and advanced Excel skills.
• Possess strong interpersonal, communicational and presentational skills.
• Proven strong analytical ability that delivers solution-based outcomes.
• High level of attention to detail.

Desirable

• Professional qualification such as MBA / CPA or similar will be considered an advantage.
• Knowledge of Centaman, Rezdy, or other POS software would be an advantage.
