We have a long-standing connection with Queensland’s rural health workforce, general practices, communities, health organisations and other not-for-profits. We have provided ongoing support to for the remote, rural and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce for over 20 years. 

The Finance and Administrative Services Team are a key Team within Health Workforce Queensland, providing financial and administrative support for the organisation as a whole and also on a Team-based level. The Finance and Administrative Services Team oversee the internal IT system, financial responsibilities including budgets, payroll, accounts payable and receiving, as well as managing quality assurance procedures and contractual reporting requirements

About the Role

The Finance team are seeking a full time Accounts Officer. 

HWQ offers a hybrid working model where your work week will be split between working from home and working in the office. 

This role is varied, and fast paced, so we are looking for someone who is able to hit the ground quickly, with high attention to detail and able to balance competing priorities.

You will have meticulous data entry skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be efficient at completing tasks within tight timeframes.

You will have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role, and you will have an intermediate to high level of competency with Excel and MYOB.

Reporting to the Management Accountant within the Finance team, you will provide high quality service delivery through effective financial and administrative support.

The Accounts Officer responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • the application of HWQ’s financial principals and processes.
  • administration of HWQ’s purchasing, job costs, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations and other financial and administrative support.
  • displaying an intermediate to high level of competency with excel and MYOB.
  • support enterprise transformation activities.
  • general accounting, reconciliations and ad-hoc reporting.

Position Requirements

To be successful in this position, you will need the following knowledge and qualifications:

  • Vocational or Tertiary qualifications (e.g. Cert IV) in administration and/or sufficient relevant experience to meet all of the role criteria 
  • Clearly communicates (verbal and written). Promptly responds to enquiries and requests for support. 
  • Works effectively in a team environment and autonomously with high level of accountability, complying with organisational policies, values and behaviours, work health and safety 
  • Advanced level of computer literacy, with extensive experience using MS Office Suite - word processing, spreadsheets and databases; high attention to detail for accurate data entry and reporting 
  • Uses knowledge and technology to achieve work objectives to support others. Demonstrates an understanding of different organisational units and functions. 
  • Proficient in using administration systems and accounting software (MYOB beneficial). 
  • Manages regular activities and milestones according to priorities agreed with Team Leader; focuses on results, learning and self-development 
  • Provides professional, prompt and accurate feedback to end users and external customers; takes initiative, takes responsibility for own performance and contribution to team. 
  • Prompt completion of routine procedures. Understands, anticipates and prevents the impact of incomplete work on others. 
  • Demonstrates consistent support for HWQ’s values of Integrity, Commitment and Equity as a guide for interactions with our clients, stakeholders and work colleagues. 
  • Performs administrative tasks with a high degree of accuracy, professionalism and quality, in a timely manner and in accordance with contractual guidelines. 
  • Assists in the preparation of relevant reports and version control as required to assist with system processes and quality assurance.
