A pivotal leadership position within the Corporate Finance Team, the Accounts Payable Manager leads a large team in the day-to-day operational delivery of accounts payable including development and implementation of service level agreements and key performance indicators. Providing strong operational leadership and subject matter expertise, this is a rare opportunity to lead a team of high performing professionals in delivering robust accounts payable support to the university.

With the division having recently experienced a period of major change, this role requires a dynamic and resilient leader with demonstrated success in establishing positive, collaborative work cultures. With a background in functional and cultural transformation programs, ideally, within large and complex industries such as manufacturing, retail or FMCG, you will have a focus on continuous improvement and an interest in new technologies and automation opportunities. A confident, credible communicator with well-developed negotiation and influencing skills, you will have worked with remote teams and can easily navigate the challenges posed when managing stakeholders virtually.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Oversee the operation of the Accounts Payable at Deakin function ensuring the function meets agreed KPI's
• Manage the day-to-day operation of the Accounts Payable team; provide effective leadership and management of staff and ensure the achievement of operational objectives
• Assist with system implementations and improvements, drive change and implement best practice
• Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders
• Mentor and upskill team members to improve effectiveness and customer service
• Establish clear expectations and contribute to the development and monitor Key Performance Indicators to ensure the efficient delivery of the Accounts Payables function
• Provide required analysis and reporting to Senior Management
• Document manage, review and improve best practice Accounts Payables policy and procedures
• Partner with both the Senior Coordinators, Finance Services to design and stabilise the new business process and develop and embed operational efficiencies

To be successful, you’ll have:

• Bachelor degree in Commerce or a related field desirable
• Extensive Accounts Payable experience and management expertise
• Demonstrated experience working to meet tight deadlines, achieve targets and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger and basic accounting principles
• Analysis and Problem Solving: Sources relevant information; identifies problems and offers sustainable, practical solutions
• Considers others perspectives in making decisions and providing advice; strives to exceed expectations
• Proactively improves the efficiency and quality of existing materials processes and systems
• Plans, analyses and co-ordinates the delivery of projects while balancing priorities and resources
• Maintains composure and focus under pressure, adapts to changing situations and recovers from the setback
• Demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, diplomacy, tact and discretion as well as proven experience handling sensitive and personal information in a confidential and appropriate manner
