APS6 Financial Accountant

The Opportunity

This role will be offered either as a long term non-ongoing contract or permanent position. Within an established and strong performing corporate team, you will work under a CFO keen to successfully assimilate you into the organisation and APS. The position has some managerial responsibility where you will directly supervise staff and have high engagement across the organisation. The Role

• Assist with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements including processing of end of year journals and development of notes for audited financial statements
• Oversee asset accounting
• Prepare monthly reporting to Divisions and the Department of Finance
• Complete month-end tasks including journals and reconciliations
• Support the ongoing development and maintenance of an appropriate accounting regime in accordance with AASB and Financial Reporting Rules
• Prepare accounting papers, briefs, minutes, QoNs as required
• Assist with tax compliance
• Manage a small team

The Person

This role will suit a strong accounting technician with high accuracy/attention to detail and strong Microsoft Excel skills. You will be a natural problem solver who is able to lead a small team toward outcomes and delivery.

Experience and skills required for the role include:

• Demonstrated understanding of Commonwealth Government accounting processes and regulatory requirements.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting
• CPA/CA not required but desirable
• Capability to provide advice on a broad range of accounting issues, resolve complex and sensitive issues and deliver quality outcomes under constrained timeframes
• Demonstrated experience being proactive and using problem solving and influencing skills to resolve accounting issues in a timely manner

Salary / Rate

• $80K - $90K + enhanced super
