About Collarts and Macleay

Collarts offers tertiary level Bachelor degrees and Diplomas across such creative pursuits as animation, music performance, music production, audio engineering, comedy, entertainment journalism, entertainment management, content creation, interior design and fashion marketing.  Collarts has four campuses, all in Melbourne.

Macleay offers tertiary level Bachelor degrees and Diplomas across Accounting, Advertising, Journalism, Business and Digital Media.  Macleay has two campuses – in Sydney and Melbourne.

Finance at Collarts & Macleay

Collarts & Macleay have recently bought the Payroll and Finance functions “in-house”.  The intention of this was to provide the colleges with immediate, on premises, financial partnership and processing capabilities. This is especially important and exciting as the colleges are now in growth phases.  The Assistant Accountant will be an integral part of this new team and will be expected to pick up existing processes, reporting, systems, etc from the existing internal team of four, while also seeking to improve these processes and question if there are better ways to deliver more efficient finance and payroll outcomes.

 

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Management Accountant, this newly created position will be one of two Assistant Accountant roles providing a range of financial processing, support, analysis and advice across Collarts and Macleay, in the management of these entities General Ledgers and financial results, related obligations and outcomes.  Also key is timely and accurate processing of payroll. This role will have significant interactions with the Management Accountant and the existing senior Assistant Accountant, both of whom have been hugely successful in bringing these processes in-house.  Significant touchpoints with business managers and employees will also occur on a regular basis, especially around receivables and payables and payroll processing, reconciliations and management

 

To succeed in this role you will need experience and confidence across receivables and payables and payroll functions in a small to medium business environment.  You will be the primary contact point for these functions and related processing and service provision.

 

Accountabilities

 

• Processing of receivables and payables across two business units;
• Processing of fortnightly and monthly payrolls across two business units;
• Processing the day-to-day Finance team deliverables (including EFT and other payments and receivables, updating creditor master data, etc);
• Preparation of BAS statements;
• Prepare regular general ledger reconciliations;
• Assist the Management Accountant in raising accruals, prepayment and other journals as required;
• Provide assistance to non finance team staff members to assist them with purchasing, receipting and payroll functions;
• General administrative duties as required.

 

The Applicant

• Experience in a similar role for at least one year;
• An understanding of payables, receivables and payroll processes;
• Strong attention to detail;
• Good time management skills;
• A can-do attitude coupled with a willingness to learn on the job, with a professional and friendly personality.

Desirable Experience

• Involvement in small to medium sized businesses payables, receivables and/or payroll processing;
• Some experience in responding to staff and external parties queries around payables, receivables and payroll;
• Some previous experience working closely with a small Finance team to achieve co-ordinated Accounting outcomes in timely and accurate ways.
