Port of Newcastle is seeking an experienced Environment Manager on a full-time permanent basis. Reporting to the Senior Manager Property, Environment & Planning, the ideal candidate will be experienced in environmental management, including contaminated land management. The Environment Manager will:
  • Have an excellent customer service sensibility and deliver innovative, fit for purpose environmental advice
  • Contribute to the strategic direction for the environment function in line with corporate strategies and appropriate contributions from relevant key stakeholders
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of the environment strategy and compliance programme
  • Developing detailed implementation plans for the strategy
  • Coach and mentor managers and workers in meeting their environment and contaminated land obligations and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with PON’s partners, and Government and port user stakeholders, to facilitate the efficient realisation of environmental strategies and other arrangements
  • Manage the Environmental Advisor

The successful candidate will have:
  
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science or related area
  • Experience working with contaminated land and hazardous materials
  • Experience in the development and implementation of policy, procedures and management systems
  • Excellent customer centricity skills
  • Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an excellent ability to build rapport
  • Ability to communicate information in an effective and constructive way
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and manage diverse stakeholders, to provide integrated advice on property, environment and planning issues
  • High attention to detail and ability to be self-motivated
  • Experience in managing consultants and projects
  • Experience dealing with regulatory agencies
  • A high degree of initiative, must be organised, methodical and thorough in detail

Ideally, the candidate will have experience in understanding and experience in ecologically sustainable development (ESD); as well as understanding of the ISO 14000 series standards and their application. The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate a successful track record in working both independently and as part of a team on high-pressure, time-sensitive and confidential projects.
