Financial Accounting Manager - Australia & New Zealand

About the Role

The role of Financial Accounting Manager for Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) is located in our Brisbane Office and will report directly to the CFO - Australia and New Zealand. This role will work with the Finance leadership team to prepare monthly reports, improve overall Finance processes involving the Financial Accounting team and provide excellent service and financial management support to the broader business.

The Financial Accounting Manager will have direct reports including the Senior Financial Accountant and Events Finance Team Leader; together with assisting the CFO in the management and support of the Financial Services Team and Planning and Reporting Team.

The role will be responsible for supporting Group Finance with Statutory Disclosures and the preparation of month end; year-end reporting and variance analysis and management reporting packs; all audit responsibilities; cashflow forecasting and Treasuring supporting documents.

A key aspect of this role is working with the CFO and Planning and Reporting Team on forecasting and budgeting, as well as ensuring the integrity of the P&L and Balance Sheet in alignment with International Accounting Standards; month end P&L reporting within 4 business days; monthly variance and analytics and reporting, with a focus to drive profit, increase yield and reduce expenses.

The Financial Accounting Manager is also responsible for the continuous review and improvement of accounting processes, including interactions with other areas of the business, to determine process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness of team processes and automate and integrate wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing monthly, half year and annual financial reporting, management reporting and variance analysis and assisting with the Group, Board and Management Reporting
  • Coordinating the preparation of the half yearly, interim, and annual CAS files for external auditors and actioning any other auditor requests
  • Fulfilling statutory and regulatory reporting obligations including completion and review of all taxation compliance including GST, FBT, Income Tax
  • Coordinating and reviewing the reports for external bodies (e.g. IATA, TANZ special purpose reports) as required
  • Proactively controlling and monitoring expenditure against budgets and provide analysis
  • Ensuring integrity and completeness of financial records and accounting processes
  • Assessing and analysing commercial corporate business contracts from a financial perspective
  • Integration of acquisitions and/or other one-off projects into the financial accounting processes and ledgers
  • Overseeing the financial accounting for events management, including project tracker and the timing of revenue recognition.
  • Identifying continuous improvement opportunities and managing projects within the team and the wider business regarding the corporate financial accounting procedures and processes
  • Recruitment, training, and performance management of team members, including monthly check-ins
  • Leading and managing a team covering all financial accounting processes to improve and develop individual and team performance
  • Providing technical financial advice and support to, and communicating and interacting with all areas of the business including the senior management team
  • Building positive working partnerships with management and supporting the business with appropriate and relevant financial support and advice
  • Other adhoc duties as directed by the CFO


Skills & Experience

  • 10+ year's relevant experience and CA/CPA qualified
  • Excellent accounting and tax technical skills
  • Demonstrated drive to achieve team results
  • Minimum intermediate level experience in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with SAP Business One and Tramada system or similar accounting / travel package is desirable, but not essential
  • Strong Leadership and People Management skills, including ability to manage change in a positive manner
  • Strong organisational skills and problem solving skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Effective written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to professionally interact with all facets of the broader business and external parties
  • Dependable, self-motivated and leading by example
  • Thorough, accurate and strong attention to detail
  • Enjoy a diverse role and providing support to other team members
  • Experience in the travel industry either finance or operations is desirable, but not essential
