The Role

This role provides an excellent opportunity for an engaging and motivated leader to lead Council’s Financial Accounting Team within the Finance department in the preparation of statutory and financial reports, and accounts payable and accounts receivable processing. As well as including a team leadership function (including resource and process planning and people management) the role also carries a portion of the team’s day to day workload. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months to provide maternity cover.

Duties are varied and include: 

• A member of the Finance Leadership Team.
• Leading the Financial Accounting Team.
• Be responsible for statutory accounting and applying accounting standards including Public Benefit Entity IFRS.
• Manage annual reporting and general ledger maintenance.
• Establish and manage effective and efficient financial services including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Track progress of team projects and deliverables, and report KPI progress and manage forecasts and expenditure through the year.
• Operate collaboratively to lead and drive outcomes across the organisation and ensure we deliver our LTP efficiently.

The skills and personal attributes we look for are:

• Leadership skills and a proven ability to successfully lead a performing team.
• Previous experience in financial accounting, preferably in Local Government.
• Be innovative and have a strong desire to strive for successful outcomes.
• Chartered Accountant.
• Hold a degree level qualification in planning or finance field.
• Have a minimum of 7 years in a leadership role in organisational or corporate performance.  

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and organised, reporting and contributing to the effectiveness of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.

The salary range for this position is $108,805.10 to $128,006.00 based on relevant skills and experience.
