As our QLD Infrastructure team continues to grow, to service a strong pipeline of work, a new position of GIS Specialist has been created to service existing work. Reporting to Infrastructure – QLD Infrastructure Group Leader and  QLD Digital Engineering Leader, this role is responsible for GIS Management and project delivery across the business, with the responsibility for determining standards, processes and supporting the delivery of major Infrastructure projects across all disciplines including road, rail, water and energy.


About you 

  • You will have a Bachelor’s degree or Masters in GIS, Geoinformatics, Computer Science or scientific related subject to transport and infrastructure or:
  • Other relevant qualification and significant demonstrated experience in Geospatial field.
  • Highly experienced in the use of geospatial software and tools including QGIS, ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Postgres, PostGIS.
  • Highly experienced in the automation of GIS workflows and geospatial application development I proprietary and open source environments.
  • Have a deep understanding of the web and its protocols / technologies including HTTP, SSL, LDAP, JDBC, SQL, HTML, XML.
  • Intermediate to advanced programming skills in python (arcpy, gdal, geopandas, pandas, scikit-learn) and/or R 
  • Solid skills in Data schema modelling, database design and management expertise and writing SQL queries within RDBMS .
  • Working knowledge of Amazon Cloud computing, web services and software (SaaS) to provide agile and elastic solutions, including.
  • Amazon EC2 - Web Services to provide secure, scalable compute capacity in the cloud.
  • Amazon S3 - Simple Storage Service to provide scalable, high-speed, web-based cloud storage services
  • Working knowledge of authentication services (AaaS) to support business requirements for two-factor authentication or single sign-on.
  • Understanding of data security requirements for the protection of data against unauthorised access or corruption.
  • Understanding of data residency regulations and General Data Protection Regulations and their impact to the business.
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership.
  • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret and decipher client queries and extract key information, to provide a flexible and adaptable approach to deal with changing priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail with a desire to maintain and monitor quality and standards.
  • Desire to excel.


About the role

The role will operate across all local Infrastructure disciplines whilst coordinating regionally with other offices and across other businesses including Buildings and Consulting. The role’s responsibilities will also include:

  • Upskilling the team  and ensuring they have a thorough understanding of Australian and International GIS standards, protocols and client specific requirements.
  • Training and support strategies, overseeing the day to day activities of the project delivery teams. Deliver or facilitate internal training sessions or engage external specialists
  • Project inception reviews advising on GIS input and delivery to meet project scope and requirements, identifying opportunities to improve quality and efficiency of delivery.
  • Leading GIS management on major multi-disciplinary Infrastructure projects including Joint Ventures, D&C and Alliance projects.
