We have an exciting new opportunity available for a Graduate Accountant at Torres Strait Islands Regional Council (TSIRC). This role will be a great opportunity for those that have recently finished a degree and have had no or limited experience.

About the role:

As part of the Finance team, the Graduate Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day delivery of the financial and management accounting functions. The role has a particular focus on financial reporting (internal and external), month-end processing, compliance, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll.​

The position adheres to current accounting standards, policies and procedures. The position is also encouraged to review and participate in improvement in processes within the finance team.

While it is expected that the position will give support and assist management in the decision-making process, the position will not be responsible for making decisions relating to operational and financial issues.

The Graduate Accountant ultimately reports to the Chief Financial Officer through the Head of Financial Services but works with other finance staff in a range of capabilities on an operational, day to day basis.

What do you need?

• Bachelor level qualifications in Business or Commerce (Accounting)
• Studying for admission to be a Certified Practising Accountant (Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants) or Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand)
• Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting Torres Strait Islander people together with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively
