Current opportunity

Our BDO Audit service line are seeking an IS Audit Specialist who thrives on providing exceptional client service to a range of clients on audit engagements across different industry specialisations. Our audit service line is committed to delivering high quality audits which support the public interest and underpin confidence in the financial eco system. Understanding and evaluating the information systems is a key part of the BDO Audit Approach.

As an IS Audit Specialist you will have the IS technical knowledge and skills to lead and complete the IS audit requirements as part of the engagement team on financial statement audits and other assurance engagements in accordance with the BDO Audit Approach.

Ideally, you will be located in Sydney or Brisbane. However, we are open to other locations as this is part of a national team. 

Duties include

  • Provide guidance to Assistant IS auditor (AIS) and/or perform the following:
    • Understanding and assessing the risk and complexity of clients’ IT environment
    • Reviewing technology processes supporting the business and ascertaining the adequacy of IT controls, process efficiency and compliance with relevant laws, regulations and company policies
    • Examining internal IT controls, evaluating the design, implementation and operational effectiveness of: IT General Controls (ITGC), IT Application Controls
  • Communicate complex IT related issues in simplified terms to engagement teams. Liaise with the engagement team to link IT control failures or deficiencies to business operations and the impact on the audit approach
  • Determine exposure to risk and develop recommendations / remediation strategies. Recommend practical and value-added solutions to management to improve operations, reduce costs and minimize risks
  • Execute IS audit work in line with the BDO Audit Approach as set out in the BDO Technical Manuals.

What you’ll need to succeed 

An IS Audit Specialist, at a minimum, will have:

  • Relevant qualifications, such as a certification or membership in a professional body or industry association (i.e. CISA, CRISC, CISM, CISSP etc.), a license to practice, or other forms of external recognition
  • 4 years’ experience in IS audit engagements and, in particular, in delivering ITGCs

Recommended key requirements, experience and skills include:

  • A degree in accounting or Information Technology
  • Proficient in IS Audit or Security Framework (e.g. NIST CSF, ISO27k, COBIT, etc.)
  • Proficient in key IT processes (e.g. IT Governance, IT Project and Change Management, Identity and Access Management, IT Automated Job Monitoring, Vulnerability Management, Backup and Recovery, Disaster Recovery Management etc.)
  • Experience with data analytics project and tools (e.g. PowerBI, ACL, Idea, Alteryx)
  • Experience with financial applications (e.g. MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, SAP, Great Plains)
