About the role
This newly created position reporting to the Technical Manager will mainly focus on the calibration, maintenance and implementation of the Near Infra-red (NIR) spectrometer on site for routine Quality control purposes.
You will be responsible for the development of reference testing protocols for instrument qualification, software and test method validation.
Responsibilities may include, whilst not limited to:
- Development and Implementation of NIR calibrations for a wide range of finished products, raw materials and intermediates.
- Routine raw material and component testing, analytical methods transfer, in-process testing, finished product testing, which may include physical and chemical analysis.
- Write SOP's, reports specifications, and protocols necessary for laboratory operations.
- Operation of all related instrumentation and lab equipment, such as NIR, pH meters, RVA etc.
- Conduct training for QC staff on new instrumentation.
- Support new product development related testing as directed.
- Ensure the accuracy of analytical testing results and verifying such results.
- Maintain laboratory equipment; reporting malfunctions; troubleshooting and performing repairs as necessary.
- Maintain full traceability of analysis.
- Document all testing and related activities.
- Maintain adequate pace of testing to deliver test results on schedule.
- Assist with implementation of other technical projects.
- Assume additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Skills and experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Food Science or related Science discipline preferred OR an associated degree plus 2 years of specific laboratory technician experience.
- Prior NIR experience desirable, although not essential.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide clear and accurate documentation with efficient communication of tasks performed.
- Exceptional ability to work well within a team and participate or work directly with cross functional teams or individuals to achieve excellent results.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing competing priorities.
- High attention to detail.
- Outstanding efficiency and accuracy skills.
- Brilliant technical skills, including chemistry and food science knowledge.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve efficiently, accurately and timely.
