RLA Polymers Pty Ltd are a multinational market leader that develops, manufactures and markets high-quality polymeric compounds and adhesives to the Building, Construction, Retail Hardware and B2B industries.  Due to the continued growth of our organisation, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced Polymer or Organic Chemist to join our technical  team at Kilsyth in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

As a qualified and skilled polymer or organic chemist, you will be responsible for technically evaluating new ideas, developing and implementing research strategies.

The successful candidate will be expected to show enthusiasm, creativity, a keenness to learn new skills and the ability to apply themselves in a dynamic and challenging environment. 

Expert project planning and delivery is a must, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable effective team working and professional dialogue with customers and colleagues.

In this role you will be responsible for:

Assessing the technical/commercial feasibility of new products and technologies by conducting synthesis, testing and characterisation of advanced polymers and chemical intermediates.

•      Project management – carry out planning and coordination activities to ensure projects are kept on track and delivered on target.  

•     Ensuring that practical work is reported/communicated effectively and professionally in a timely manner.

•     Contributing to the team effort by building positive working relationships and sharing of best practice.

•     Providing technical support and advice to Production and Sales Teams.

•     Providing technical cover for R&D or QC departmental absences to ensure operational efficiency.

• Applying lab procedures and good practices while being able to detect potential problems.
• Planning, executing and report test data on assigned tasks to supervisor.
• Recording, compile, and present activities and results in the required format.
• Applying assigned test methods in accordance with established quality procedures.
• Conducting complex, multi-step experiments with minimal supervision.
• Employing the scientific method in the development of new commercial products.
• Recording all data in scientific notebooks.
• Paying attention to detail and housekeeping responsibilities to maintain a safe working environment.
• Attending all departmental safety and staff meetings as required.
• Conforming with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules and instructions.
• Performing other duties as directed by supervisor
