The Role and opportunity

Are you a Quantitative Geneticist looking to make an impact and shape the direction of research within Animal Genomics?

This is your opportunity to be involved operating as part of one or more, multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver high quality science outcomes relevant to pastoral industry priorities; and in doing so will work with others to identify and convert opportunities into successful R&D proposals and outcomes. You will establish connections with industry stakeholders and develop a sound understanding of challenges faced.

Based at our Invermay Campus you will be responsible for some of the following components.

What you will do

• Identify new opportunities for delivering R&D solutions to the NZ Pastoral industry in collaboration with science and technical staff,  including Science Team and Project Leaders, as well as Strategy and Sector Leaders.
• Plan, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of work for major projects or complete projects of moderate size.
• Contribute to the development of successful funding proposals that attract revenue and offer solutions to existing and new customers.
• Act as main investigator or co-investigator on research projects.
• Work pro-actively to consistently deliver high quality relevant research.

Your ideal background

• PhD in an area of quantitative genetics applied to improvement of agricultural species with significant research experience and industry engagement.
• Expertise in the area of genomic selection-assisted breeding technology. 
• Experience in statistics and evaluation of experimental field trials.
• Expertise in genetic analysis software (e.g. Mix99, R, ASReml, Beagle, FImpute, VCFtools,  R/Bioconductor or equivalent).
• Proficient in programming language such as Python, Fortran, Julia or a related language with experience in writing scripts to automate analysis.
