About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for Senior Financial Accounting Officer in our Melbourne office on a Permanent basis. This role will be responsible for the accurate production of monthly financial reports including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow Statement for AEMO meeting all applicable accounting standards and providing a high quality and efficient output to the organisation.

This role will lead the production of  financial accounting and reporting for AEMO ensuring financial information is accurately reported and compliant with current accounting standards and financial statutory requirements.

Key accountabilities:

  • Ensure the data integrity of the general ledger and that financial information is accurately reported and compliant with current accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
  • Apply well developed managerial skills to prepare comprehensive, accurate financial reports, within set timelines, to satisfy AEMO’s statutory financial reporting obligations, ensuring compliance with indirect tax laws, especially Goods and Services Tax (GST), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Payroll Tax (PRT) and Superannuation Obligations.
  • Assist with the interpretation of new accounting standards and identify financial implications for AEMO. Draft technical position papers in conjunction with the  Manager Financial Accounting.
  • Provide key internal control checks relating to financial transactions and payroll.
  • Provide expert advice and deliver organisational wide training to managers and staff on the financial system, interpretation of financial policies, procedures, statutory reporting and disclosure obligations
  • Effectively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influence stakeholders holding competing priorities and negotiate to resolve differences to achieve agreement.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with AEMO’S External Auditor during annual audits, ensuring financial information is accurate and is provided in accordance with requirements and timeframes.

Required skills and experience: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • CPA/CA qualification 5+ years’ experience in similar position
  • Excellent understanding of contemporary accounting standards and practices, including ASX accounting pronouncements guidelines and financial reporting directions.
  • Excellent people management skills with the ability to lead and guide staff to achieve successful work outcomes within an effective and supportive team environment.
  • Proven significant experience in the production of financial statements and associated financial information, with rigorous balance sheet account reconciliation processes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise with and effectively advise senior management and stakeholders.
