Cairns Regional Council is currently seeking a Senior Internal Review Accountant to join our Finance Department. 

Primary Objective of the position:

• Promote a “We are here to help” culture within the Finance Department
• Management of Council’s Internal Control Framework, including assessing and evaluating control measures to ensure Council’s assets are safeguarded and managing the risks to which the Council’s operations are exposed
• Provide objective feedback and recommendations to Council with a focus on continuous improvement, productivity and efficiency

To be successful in this role you must have:

• Relevant tertiary qualification
• Certified Practising Accountant status (CPA Australia) or Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia)
• Extensive experience in a relevant senior accounting/finance role within the commercial or government sector
• Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills; well-developed interpersonal skills; and an ability to build relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
• Sound knowledge of financial administration legislation, accounting, auditing and financial management standards, practices and procedures and the ability to develop policies and assess financial ramification of proposals
