Statistician – Neurocognitive Brain Research and Products

Total Brain is a world-leading digital wellness platform for mental health and brain performance self-monitoring and self-care – based in cognitive neuroscience and powered by the world’s largest integrative and standardized database of cognitive and emotional functioning and related measures of functional brain performance.  

 

Total Brain is offering a unique Statistician position, working on research and product development for this platform.  Your role involves a broad range research, product content and data analysis activities, including: 

 

• Advanced analysis of very large database data for novel research into the relationship between different aspects of cognition, emotional functioning and mental wellness (including questionnaire, cognitive performance, psychophysiological and genomic data).  
• Working on world-first analyses evaluating patterns of brain training that lead to improvements in cognitive and emotional well-being.
• Data analysis to support internal R&D projects and product development.

 

You would work within a multidisciplinary team from a range of academic, corporate and software development backgrounds. You would regularly report to and work with management and will need to be highly skilled in distilling complicated results and communicating any challenges. Authorship opportunities on selected papers will also be available.

This is a full-time position, although other arrangements may be discussed. Salary will be discussed and will be dependent on the experience and skills of the applicant. 

 

The position is based in our Surry Hills office in Sydney.

Essentials:

 

Training/qualifications:

                                                                                     

Post-graduate degree or equivalent work-related experience in statistical analysis, including experience in neuroscience, psychology, social sciences or other health-related field. 

 

Skills and experience:

 

• Experience using the R statistical package (intermediate or advanced level)
• High level of experience with statistical data analysis for neuroscience, social sciences or related field
• Strong skills in advanced statistical analysis techniques suitable for very large and complex datasets, including:
  • Structural equation modelling
  • Complex feature selection methods
  • Regression techniques
  • Predictive modelling
  • Correcting for multiple testing
• Demonstrated problem solving skills
• Capacity to self-manage and perform within a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a range of people (e.g. senior management, teams a non-science background, and other researchers from a range of disciplines).
• Highly developed organizational skills, including prioritization and time management.

 

 

Preferable: 

 

• Experience with using a database
• Experience in a corporate setting
• Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a range of people (eg, senior management, researchers and general public – and from different countries and cultural contexts).
